Ukrainian Ihor Khmara wins World Cup rowing event in Bulgaria

Ihor Khmara, a 36-year-old from Kyiv, claimed his first victory of the 2026 World Rowing Cup season.

According to Suspilne Sport, the second stage of the World Rowing Cup is taking place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) with over 330 athletes from 22 countries competing in 18 boat classes, reports Ukrinform.

Ihor Khmara brought Ukraine its first medal of the World Rowing Cup season in the men’s lightweight single sculls. The Ukrainian completed the course in 6 minutes and 57.16 seconds to claim the gold. Khmara finished 9.71 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Firdavs Akhunov of Uzbekistan. Venezuelan Jonas Diaz finished third.

We would like to add that on Sunday, June 14, the second day of the World Cup finals will take place in Plovdiv. Ukraine will compete for three sets of medals: in the men’s coxless fours and quadruple sculls, as well as in the women’s double sculls.
