Dynamo Kyiv defeats Gent, wins through to Champions League group stage

Dynamo Kyiv will play in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the last four years.

After a 2-1 away victory a week ago, the Ukrainian club confidently defeated Belgium's Gent 3-0 at home in the second leg of their Champions League playoff tie, according to Ukrinform.

The match took place at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kyiv on September 29. Goals were scored by Vitaliy Buyalskyi (9), Carlos de Pena (36, P), and Gerson Rodrigues (49, P).

Dynamo Kyiv beat Gent 5-1 on aggregate and will play in the group stage of the Champions League. Gent will play in the group stage of the Europa League.

Dynamo Kyiv returns to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016/17 season. Four years ago, the Ukrainian club took fourth place in Champions League Group B in which their opponents were Italy's Napoli, Portugal's Benfica, and Turkey's Besiktas.

The draw for the group stage of the 2020/21 Champions League will be made on Thursday, October 1, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon (Switzerland). Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk will also take part in the draw ceremony.
