WBC Convention opens in Kyiv

The 56th Convention of the World Boxing Council (WBC) officially opened in Kyiv on Monday and will last until October 5, Ukrinform reports.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) is one of the three major professional boxing organizations. The WBC Convention is a prestigious boxing forum that attracts leading athletes, coaches, referees, promoters, media representatives. Ukraine is hosting such a large-scale event for the first time. More than 700 participants from 160 countries arrived for the Convention.

The grand opening of the Convention took place on Poshtova Square this morning. In addition to usual meetings and seminars, some other events will also be held. In particular, a charity auction will take place on October 1 to raise money for the reconstruction of a boxing hall in Mariupol. On October 2, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and star guests will visit a children's institution to hold a charity event.

An autograph session with Vitali Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Oleksandr Usyk will be held on October 2. A tournament dubbed "Together with Legends" with the participation of young Ukrainian boxers will take place at the Sports Palace. 

The main stars of the Convention will be WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, Wladimir Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Julio Cesar Chavez, Tony Bellew, and Oscar De La Hoya.
