Kyiv police name major risks during Champions League final

The major risks during the final of the UEFA Champions League are a terrorist threat, pocket thieves and scuffles between fans, according to Kyiv police.

The head of the main directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, Andriy Kryshchenko, said this at a press conference on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"The main security risks to which we direct our response are a terrorist threat, so we are cooperating with the Security Service of Ukraine. Another threat is the intensification of petty crime. We understand that there will be many foreign visitors, so there will be a large number of patrols in the streets who will expose and detain pocket thieves," Kryshchenko said.

Another risk during the Champions League final is the possibility of clashes between fans.

"There might be a crowd of football fans who will prepare for the match and then, after the match, will be satisfied or dissatisfied with the loss or win of their teams, so there is a possibility of large-scale clashes. The police are preparing for this. Ahead of the matches almost all police officers in Kyiv and the National Guard will prevent and stop these risks," he said.

The police added that around 10,000 law enforcement officers would guard order in Kyiv during the final of the UEFA Champions League.
