Wladimir Klitschko has glorified Ukraine to whole world - president

Ukraine is proud of its champion Wladimir Klitschko, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said on his Facebook page.

"Klitschko's name has become a symbol of victory and glorified Ukraine to the whole world. Wladimir's triumphs will always live in our memory as an example of a steel will. Ukraine is proud of you, champion!" he wrote.

As reported, former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko announced his retirement from boxing. He will now focus on developing his brand.

Such a decision rules out a rematch with Briton Anthony Joshua. In April, Joshua defended the IBF title and won IBO and WBA belts. Klitschko lost to Joshua by technical knockout.

The highlight of Klitschko's great amateur career was his Gold Medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. Afterwards Klitschko started his impressive professional career.

His career stands at 64 wins in 69 bouts, 54 by KO. He competed in 29 world title fights, which is a unique record in heavyweight boxing.
