Euro 2016 kicks off in France tonight

The final tournament of 15th European Football Championship begins in France today.

In the opening game, which will be played at Stade de France in Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, France entertains Romania, Ukrinform reports.

For the first time  24 teams that are divided into 6 groups will play at Euro 2016.

Ukraine faces Germany, Northern Ireland and Poland in Group C.

The opening game for the Ukrainian national team will be in Lille on June 12 against current world champions Germany. On June 16 Mykhaylo Fomenko’s team will take on Northern Ireland in Lyon, and on June 21 the Ukrainians face Poland in Marseille in their last group stage game. The format is such that with six groups of four teams, it means the top two will qualify for the last 16, plus the four best third-place countries. In other words, only eight teams of the 24 will fail to qualify from the group stage.
