Injured deer Borys likely to undergo surgery
People are being urged not to disturb Borys the deer, who was injured in a road accident on March 23, as the animal needs peace and quiet.
This was reported to an Ukrinform correspondent by Ruslan Khrystiuk, a forest ranger at the Rychytske forestry who is caring for the deer.
“Borys has been found… we are now trying not to disturb him so he can have peace. I found him a week ago, but I didn’t tell anyone,” Khrystiuk said.
He noted that every morning and evening he travels to the place where he found the deer after it went missing and feeds the animal.
“He’s eating well, he has an appetite. He’s not putting weight properly on his leg… most likely, we will operate on him,” Khrystiuk said.
He assumes that the animal may need to be taken to Kyiv for surgery
Khrystiuk is asking people not to disturb the deer.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Khrystiuk said earlier that he had last seen Borys about a week before Easter. A drone with a thermal imaging camera was planned to be used to searched for the animal.
On March 23, in Rivne region, Borys the deer – something of a mascot for residents of Zarichne – was injured in a traffic accident.
Nataliia Popova, head of the Wildlife Rescue Center, said the deer has a closed fracture, and surgery could be considered after the animal’s condition stabilizes.
Later, it was reported that the deer’s condition had stabilized.
The woman who hit Borys with her car was banned by court from driving for one year.
