Lithuania cancels concerts by former Modern Talking member Dieter Bohlen following his statements about ‘dream team’ with Russia

Concerts of former Modern Talking member Dieter Bohlen have been canceled in Lithuania following his remarks about a past "dream team" between Russia and Germany.

According to DW, as reported by Ukrinform, the 72-year-old German musician was scheduled to perform with his band Blue System in Klaipeda on November 20 and in Kaunas on November 21.

The concerts were announced earlier in the week, but later disappeared from venue websites and ticket platforms.

"We consulted with the organizers and agreed that such an event should not take place at our arena," said a representative of Zalgiris Arena.

Although the official reason for the cancellation was not stated, Lithuania's public broadcaster LRT links it to Bohlen’s November interview. In it, he said that "Russia and Germany were essentially a dream team, because we had cheap energy and things were going very well. From a purely economic point of view, it was like this: one has one thing, the other has another." He compared this to the success of Modern Talking and added that "this was abandoned for moral reasons."

After 2022, the musician condemned the war in Ukraine, but at the same time opposed supplying weapons to Kyiv, arguing that the conflict cannot be resolved by military means.

As Ukrinform reported, Lithuania has also banned Georgian rapper Gio Pika (Giorgi Jioev), who performed in occupied Crimea, from entering the country until February 19, 2031.
