Ukraine preparing for spring floods, government pledges support for people
Flooding in Ukraine's central regions is expected to begin as early as late March, and the government is preparing mechanisms to support people and communities in case of inundations.
According to Ukrinform, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced this on Telegram.
During a meeting attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Social Policy, and the head of the State Emergency Service, participants discussed preparations for the spring floods.
"According to forecasts, flooding in the central regions is expected to begin as early as late March. The potential threat primarily concerns these regions. The situation may be more complicated in the Carpathian region and in the Odesa region," Svyrydenko wrote.

Situation centers are currently operating in all regions. Continuous information exchange has been established between regional military administrations and the State Emergency Service, along with round-the-clock monitoring of the hydrological situation.
Svyrydenko said the State Emergency Service and the heads of regional military administrations had been instructed to form reserves of necessary equipment, fuel, and supplies for rapid response and to deal with possible consequences of flooding.
"We are also preparing a mechanism to support people and communities in the event of flooding. We are creating a commission to deal with the consequences, assist those affected, provide financial compensation, including support for children's recovery programs, and additional assistance for vulnerable groups," Svyrydenko said.
