Funds raised in Belgium for Ukrainian medics through sale of Banksy works
At the Abbey of Grimbergen in Belgium, a charity sale of limited-edition items featuring works by British street artist Banksy has been organised to raise funds in support of Ukrainian medical workers.
According an Ukrinform correspondent, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Belgium reported this.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Belgium Yaroslav Melnyk took part in a press conference marking the opening of the three-day charity exhibition and the presentation of works by Banksy connected to his murals in Ukraine.
“The initiative was organised by Actie Pater Karel with the aim of raising funds for ambulances and medical equipment for Ukraine. All funds raised will be directly allocated to supporting Ukrainian medical workers and saving lives amid the Russian military aggression against Ukraine,” the Embassy said in a statement.
The event was also attended by Grimbergen Mayor Bart Laeremans, Ambassador of Belgium to Ukraine Luc Jacobs, representatives of the clergy of the Abbey of Grimbergen, members of the public, as well as local Belgian media.
During the press conference, the Ambassador of Ukraine emphasized that “solidarity backed by concrete actions is of particular importance to Ukraine,” noting that art becomes “not only a symbol of resilience, but also an instrument of tangible support, as such initiatives translate into additional capacity to protect the lives and health of Ukrainians.”
As previously reported by Ukrinform, in the Belgian city of Mechelen, local authorities have allocated a building on the city’s central square for the Ukrainian community, where civic organizations can host humanitarian, educational, and cultural events. The location has been symbolically named the “Ukrainian House.”
