300 people evacuate from dangerous areas of Sumy region this year

Since the start of this year, 300 residents have already evacuated from border communities in the Sumy region that are under constant shelling by Russian forces.

Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, said this in a post on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"Border communities in the Sumy region are under constant enemy shelling. People are forced to leave their homes – a difficult and painful decision, but often the only way to protect their lives. Since the beginning of the year, 300 residents have evacuated from dangerous areas," the statement said.

These are residents of the Krasnopillia, Bilopillia, Myropillia, Vorozhba, Yunakivka, Velyka Pysarivka, Svesa, Hlukhiv, Seredyna-Buda, Esman, Shalyhyne, Khutir-Mykhailivskyi and Nova Sloboda communities – areas that Russians attack virtually every day.

The Sumy Regional Military Administration noted that the task of regional and local authorities is to support people at this difficult time. In particular, the region has prepared places for temporary and long-term accommodation: vacant houses, apartments and dormitories, and transit centers are operating in Sumy, Romny and the Shostka district. More than 1,350 places for internally displaced persons are currently available.

In addition, long-term solutions are being implemented with the support of international partners. Nearly 100 people are already living in modular housing in the Nyzhnia Syrovatka and Lypova Dolyna communities.

The regional administration urged residents of communities where evacuation has been announced to take care of themselves and their families.

On Saturday, January 24, Russians attacked two villages in the Sumy community with drones, damaging cars and houses.
