Embassy takes three Ukrainian prisoners of war out of Hungary

The Embassy of Ukraine in Budapest took three Ukrainian prisoners of war out of Hungary to Ukrainian territory.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in Budapest managed to take three Ukrainian prisoners of war out of Hungary. They are already in the Ukrainian territory, they are provided with all kinds of support," Oleg Nikolenko, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, posted on Facebook.

He added that Ukrainian diplomats, together with the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and other involved bodies of Ukraine, continue to take active measures to bring home the rest of the Ukrainian defenders deported from Russia to Hungary.

As reported, on June 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine invited the Charge d'Affaires ad interim of Hungary and gave him a request to provide detailed information about the Ukrainian prisoners of war handed over by Russia to Budapest and to immediately ensure consular access to them.

It was also reported that the Ukrainian government was not informed about the relevant Hungary–Russia negotiations. The Ukrainian side found out about the fact that Russia handed over eleven Ukrainians of Hungarian origin to Budapest from the public statements made by Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary Zsolt Semjén to the Hungarian mass media.
