More than a million places for IDPs created in Ukraine
There are 4,857,200 officially registered internally displaced persons in Ukraine. More than one million places have been created for them, including 144,000 vacant places in the regions of Ukraine, including 31,000 for long-term stay.
This is stated in the preliminary report of the Temporary Investigation Commission of the Verkhovna Rada to investigate possible violations of Ukrainian legislation in the field of receiving, distributing, transporting, storing, using for the intended purpose of humanitarian and other assistance, as well as inefficient use of state property that can be used for temporary accommodation of internally displaced persons and other state needs, Ukrinform reports.
The text of the document states that as of January 3, 2023, according to the Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, 4,857,200 internally displaced persons were officially registered in Ukraine, of which more than 3.5 million people moved after February 24, 2022. According to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, 6.8% of this number of IDPs are combatants. Some 1.8 million IDPs have received housing assistance.
The largest number of internally displaced persons was registered in Donetsk, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kyiv regions and the city of Kyiv.
According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, as of December 2, 2022, more than one million places have been created for internally displaced persons, including 144,000 vacant places in the regions of Ukraine, including 31,000 for long-term stay.
At the same time, it is noted that 70% to 95% of IDPs consider the lack of housing and work tied to housing to be the main problems.
At the same time, the report of the International Organization for Migration is cited, which emphasizes that among the problems that most concern internally displaced persons are: housing conditions - 27%, payment for rented housing - 23%, payment for housing and communal services - 20%, unemployment - 13%.
As reported, on April 17, the government supported the initiative of the Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine to establish a Coordination Headquarters for Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Internally Displaced Persons. The goal is to consistently implement state policy to support IDPs. The work of the Coordination Headquarters will begin with consideration of housing issues.
