Ukrainian minister, German MP discuss preparation of Ukrainian cultural institutions for winter

Ukraine's Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko and Deputy Head of the Bundestag Committee on Cultural Affairs and Media Marco Wanderwitz the preparation of Ukrainian cultural institutions for the winter.

Tkachenko said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"I met with Marco Wanderwitz, deputy head of the Bundestag Committee on Cultural Affairs and Media, during my visit to Berlin last summer. Even then we agreed that he would visit us to see everything with his own eyes," Tkachenko said.

Both parties discussed additional protection of Ukrainian cultural institutions before winter.

"Cultural institutions lack emergency equipment: generators, fire extinguishers, fire-resistant materials for preparing and preserving their collections for the winter," Tkachenko said.

He noted that Russia had destroyed or damaged hundreds of objects of cultural infrastructure in Ukraine. The total amount of financial support needed for the frontline regions of Ukraine is valued at EUR 50 million.

"I raised the issue of Germany recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. We have to call things by their names. I hope that what they see here will speed up decision-making in Germany," Tkachenko said.
