Border guards prevent attempt by foreigner to smuggle child out of Ukraine

Border guards of the Chop Detachment prevented the illegal attempt to traffic out of Ukraine a two-year-old toddler by her father, a citizen of Iraq, who had kidnapped the child from her mother.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Border Guards’ press service.

According to the State Border Guard Service, a Ukrainian woman had informed the border guards about a possible attempt by a citizen of Iraq, the father of her child, to take the latter out of Ukraine after kidnapping her. The information was sent to all checkpoints along the state border.

"A man arrived at the railway checkpoint Chop (Druzhba) along with the child. He planned to leave by train to Hungary. During the border control routine, it was established that the man was taking the girl out of Ukraine without the mother's permission," the report says.

Police officers were called up to the scene to handle the case and take legal action.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian border guards deny passage to about 150 persons per day, mostly male individuals of military age.
