The German rock band Scorpions has replaced the words about Moscow in their hit Wind of Change to show support for Ukraine.

The relevant statement was made by Radio Svoboda (Radio Liberty), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

On March 27, 2022, at the Las Vegas concert, singer Klaus Maine replaced the first line of the song, which initially said: “I follow the Moskva down to Gorky Park”, with the following words: “Now listen to my heart, it says Ukraine”. This way Scorpions expressed support for the Ukrainian people, repelling an armed invasion of Russian troops.

The song Wind of Change was written by Klaus Maine in the late 1980s after his first visit to the USSR. For the whole world, it became one of the symbols of democratic change in the Soviet Union, and later – one of the symbols of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Scorpions repeatedly performed in Russia, including at the corporate events of state-owned companies. Dmitry Medvedev, who used to act as Russia’s prime minister at that time, admitted his good attitude to the rock band.

A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, killing civilians.
