Biden calls to prevent tragedies such as Holodomor

Every November, we solemnly honor and pay tribute to the millions of innocent Ukrainians who suffered and perished during the Holodomor, and we must prevent such tragedies in the future.

That’s according to a statement by U.S. President Joe Biden, released by the White House on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports.

“The men, women, and children who lost their lives during this famine were victims of the brutal policies and deliberate acts of the regime of Joseph Stalin,” Biden said.

He also called to “recommit ourselves to the constant work of preventing such tragedies in the future and lifting up those who are suffering under the yoke of tyranny today.”

“The Ukrainian people overcame the horror of the Holodomor, demonstrating their spirit and resilience, and eventually creating a free and democratic society,” the statement reads.

Remembering the pain and the victims of the Holodomor, the United States reaffirms its commitment to the people of Ukraine today and its unwavering support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Biden said.

Memo: Every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine honors the memory of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as well as those of the mass artificial famines of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947. In 2021, Holodomor Remembrance Day will be marked on November 27.
