Verkhovna Rada simplifies humanitarian cargo import to Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved the Law “On Amendments to Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Humanitarian Aid’ (3527)”, which expands the powers of regional state administrations to recognize as humanitarian aid the cargo weighing up to five tonnes.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, 283 MPs voted in favor of the relevant decision.

The document provides for the expansion of the powers of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, regional, Kyiv and Sevastopol city state administrations to recognize the cargo weighing up to 5 tonnes and cargo weighing up to 22 tonnes as humanitarian aid, if such cargo consists exclusively of goods needed to implement measures aimed at preventing the occurrence and spread, localization and elimination of outbreaks of epidemics, the list of which is approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, or if these goods are intended to combat other emergencies.

The current version of the law allows these government bodies to recognize as humanitarian aid the cargo weighing up to three tonnes.
