Ukraine records 300 Delta variant cases – health official

Some 300 cases of the highly infectious Delta variant have already been recorded in Ukraine, the country's chief sanitary doctor, Ihor Kuzin, has told Ukrinform.

"Delta is gradually displacing other variants circulating in the country. As of today [August 12], we have already registered 300 cases of the Delta variant, and we really see this situation in all regions of the country. We don't have some leaders or outsiders. That is, it is progressing and is gradually covering every region of the country. Now, the Delta variant is diagnosed by PCR test systems that can identify six major variants circulating in the world," Kuzin said.

He noted that the gradual growth in COVID-19 cases in each region was probably due to the circulation of the Delta variant.

As many as 1,263 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine on August 12. Some 2,263,864 people have contracted the infection, 2,195,798 have recovered, and 53,217 have died in Ukraine since the pandemic began.
