EU adds Ukraine to ‘green list’ – PM Shmyhal

The European Union has included Ukraine in the "green list" of countries and recommends lifting travel restrictions for Ukrainians.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal confirmed this information on Telegram.

"The European Union has included Ukraine in the "green list" of countries and recommends lifting travel restrictions for Ukrainians. The final decision is up to Member States, but in fact the EU has greenlighted so that Ukrainians can freely travel to Europe," he wrote.

As Ukrinform reported, the EU’s Permanent Representatives Committee at the level of ambassadors added Ukraine to the list of countries with which EU Member States are recommended to gradually lift non-essential travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In June 2020, the Council of the EU adopted recommendations on the gradual removal of temporary restrictions on non-essential travel to the EU and identified a list of countries covered by such recommendations. This list is reviewed by the Council every two weeks and updated. Given the epidemiological situation, Ukraine was not previously included in the list.
