Ukraine, Ireland discuss mutual recognition of COVID certificates

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held a phone conversation with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence Simon Coveney, the ministry's press service reports.

Kuleba welcomed the opening of the Embassy of Ireland in Ukraine with a residence in Kyiv. Coveney confirmed his intention to visit Ukraine this year to discuss the intensification of Ukrainian-Irish relations in political, economic, technological, and cultural spheres.

The ministers discussed the measures taken by Ukraine and Ireland in the context of countering the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccinating the population, and simplifying travel rules for citizens.

“Ukraine is completing the process of launching a digital COVID certificate, which will be synchronized with its EU analogue. Mutual recognition of such certificates between our countries will simplify the travel of citizens and revive business contacts. This will be one of the first tasks of the ambassador of Ukraine, who is due to arrive in Dublin in a few weeks,” Kuleba said.

The Ukrainian minister thanked Ireland for its support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for promoting internal transformations in the country.

Coveney stressed that Ireland supports Ukraine's European choice.

The ministers also discussed the two countries' cooperation in international organizations, in particular in the context of Ireland's non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
