Ukraine launches Green Country project – president

President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine is launching the Green Country environmental project, within which it is planned to increase forest areas by 1 million hectares in 10 years.

The decree on the start of the project was signed by the head of state during his speech at the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Ecology" on Monday, June 7, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We are launching the Green Country project. I must say right away that this is not a political project; this is an ecological project for nature and the environment. We have set an ambitious but achievable goal - to increase forest areas by 1 million hectares in 10 years," Zelensky said.

He added that 1 billion trees are planned to be planted in Ukraine in the next three years to achieve this goal.

The president also noted that all unprocessed timber in Ukraine is sold through electronic auctions. In the first quarter of this year, revenues of state-owned forest enterprises increased by UAH 1 billion.

The All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Ecology" takes place in Kyiv from June 7 to 9.
