United States gives over USD 400M to keep Ukrainians safe following Chornobyl disaster – embassy

The United States has provided more than USD 400 million to keep Ukrainians safe following the Chornobyl disaster.

The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine posted this on its Twitter account on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Chornobyl NPP disaster, Ukrinform reports.

"The United States has contributed more than $400 million to keep people safe following the disaster. Our support continues, and we look forward to continuing to work with Ukraine and our partners to improve the lives of Ukrainians across the country," the report reads.

As Ukrinform reported, 45 countries provided EUR 2.1 billion for the construction of a new safe confinement over the damaged fourth power unit of the Chornobyl NPP.

International Chornobyl Disaster Remembrance Day is marked on April 26.
