UIA plane crash: International Coordination Group takes note of Iran's report
The International Coordination and Response Group for the victims of Flight PS752 says it will continue to seek accountability and transparency from Iran for the tragedy and justice for the victims.
This was said in a joint statement by the Coordination Group, published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“We, Ministers representing Afghanistan, Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, have taken note of the release of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s final safety investigation report into the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 (PS752),” the statement reads.
The Coordination Group countries will now carefully review this report and its findings. They stand in solidarity with the families and loved ones of the victims, who continue to grieve their profound loss.
The Coordination Group will continue to seek accountability and transparency from the Islamic Republic of Iran for this tragedy and justice for the victims.
On January 8, 2020, Ukraine International Airlines plane (Flight PS752) heading from Tehran to Kyiv crashed shortly after taking off from the Imam Khomeini International Airport. There were 176 people on board – nine crew members (all Ukrainians) and 167 passengers (citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, and the UK).
On January 11, Iran admitted that its military had accidentally shot down the Ukrainian passenger jet. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accepted full responsibility for the downing of the Ukrainian airliner.
On January 5, 2021, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine had received from Iran a draft technical report on the circumstances of the crash of flight PS752, and should prepare its comments by the end of February.
On February 20, Iran announced the completion of the investigation into this case.
On March 17, Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization released the final report on the UIA plane crash. The report blamed an error by an air defence operator for the accidental downing of the Ukrainian plane.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called Iran's final report an attempt to hide true causes of the plane crash.
