Ukraine will start COVID-19 vaccination on Feb 24 - Liashko

Ukrainian will start vaccination against coronavirus tomorrow, on February 24, according to Deputy Minister of Health, Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko.

"We are planning to start vaccination tomorrow, after the delivery of the first batches [to the regions]," he said at a press conference at Ukrinform on Tuesday, February 23.

He added that vaccination would begin with doctors who provide care to patients with COVID-19.

"The first seven regions that will receive the vaccine include Kyiv city and Kyiv region, Chernihiv, Cherkasy region, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia. Vaccination begins after the vaccine is delivered," Liashko said.

According to him, the vaccine will be sent to 11 regions tomorrow, and some regions will receive the vaccine on February 25 due to logistics. Syringes and boxes for safe disposal will also be delivered along with the vaccines, he said.

At the first stage, only mobile teams will be administering the vaccine, he said.

Liashko added that the vaccine produced under the Oxford/AstraZeneca license at the sites of the Serum Institute of India is completely safe and its immunogenicity exceeds 97%.
