Over 2,000 children adopted in Ukraine in 2020 – Justice Ministry

A total of 2,047 children were adopted in Ukraine in 2020, the Ukrainian Justice Ministry has reported on its Telegram channel.

"During 2020, civil registry offices made 2,047 changes to birth certificates on the basis of court judgments on adoption," the report reads.

The ministry said that 1,890 children were adopted by citizens of Ukraine, 18 by citizens of the CIS countries, and 139 by citizens of other states.

Some 1,419 children were adopted in Ukraine in 2019, or 61 children more than in 2018.

Ukraine was the second country in the world by the number of children adopted by U.S. citizens in 2019.
