Ukraine’s vaccination campaign may be extended in Q1, 2022 – health minister

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov says that Ukraine’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign may be extended in the first quarter of 2022.

He said this during the All-Ukrainian Forum “Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses” on February 8, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The main task is to cover at least 50% of the population, about 21 million people, with safe vaccination in 2021. We expect to complete it by the end of 2021, but we understand that the campaign may be extended in the first quarter of 2022," Stepanov said.

The minister noted that vaccination against coronavirus in Ukraine would be free of charge and voluntary.

According to him, vaccination will begin with people who are at the highest risk of contracting and developing COVID-19.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Health is planning to begin COVID-19 vaccination campaign in February 2021. The ministry expects that 50% of the population of Ukraine will be vaccinated in 2021-2022.

As of February 8, Ukraine reported 1,246,990 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 2,141 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours.
