Ukraine wants to purchase surplus COVID-19 vaccines from EU countries

Ukraine is ready to purchase surplus COVID-19 vaccines from EU countries.

"Our teams are already working on a pilot project. We are ready to purchase surplus vaccines from EU member states in order to protect our citizens as soon as possible. In this regard, I would like to ask you, members of Parliament, to inform the countries that the mechanism is practically created and we now need only political decisions of the countries," Health Minister of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov said at an online discussion "Increasing EU assistance to the Eastern Partnership countries in the fight against COVID-19", Ukrinform reports.

As the minister noted, Ukraine is negotiating with the main manufacturers of the COVID-19 vaccine, which have completed trials or are in the 3rd stage of clinical trials, and potential contracts with several of them are already being finalized.

Ukraine has also adopted COVID-19 vaccination plan, according to which at least 50% of the total population of Ukraine will be vaccinated in 2021-2022.
