Tranche of vaccines from COVAX to include Pfizer – Liashko

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be part of a tranche of vaccines from the COVAX Facility, Deputy Health Minister, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko has said.

He said this during the online discussion entitled "Vaccination. Corruption. COVID-19: Open Discussion" on January 27, Ukrinform reports.

“When we talk about vaccine supplies, we mean supplies from two sources in February: the first is COVAX, and the second is procurement at public expense… Pfizer has confirmed to the COVAX Facility that it can deliver 50 million doses of RNA vaccine to the Facility. Ukraine is included in the list of 92 countries that will receive the vaccine free of charge under the COVAX Facility, along with syringes and diluents,” Liashko said.

According to him, the exact number of vaccine doses and the date when it may appear in Ukraine in February will be known approximately on January 29. Also, according to Liashko, 16 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine can be delivered to Ukraine within the COVAX initiative.

As Ukrinform reported, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said that vaccination in Ukraine is expected to begin in February. It will be conducted by mobile teams during the first stage.

In January 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers made a decision allowing the British agency Crown Agents to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for Ukraine. The Health Ministry plans to sign an agreement with another COVID-19 vaccine supplier in the near future.
