Ukraine receives 1.2 million PCR tests from UNICEF

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has purchased 1.2 million COVID-19 PCR tests for Ukraine.

“We have received 1.2 million PCR tests for diagnosing COVID-19 from UNICEF, they are all made in the UK. Now they are at the State Enterprise Ukrvaktsyna and we will further distribute them among our laboratory centers," Health Minister of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov said at a briefing.

He added that the test kits were purchased for the credit funds from the World Bank. The relevant agreement was signed in May 2020, when part of the funds was redirected to purchase medical devices necessary to combat COVID-19.

The minister reminded that all Ukrainian citizens, who have signs of SARS or have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient, can perform COVID-19 tests free of charge.

As of January 27, Ukraine has reported 1,200,883 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 3,776 cases recorded over the past day.
