PM Shmyhal: Ukraine to create special fund to finance purchases of vaccines

The Government and the Office of the President are conducting needed measures to ensure that Ukraine is guarantied to have a larger number of coronavirus vaccines, in addition to the planned 8 million doses within the global COVAX initiative.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal wrote about this on his Facebook page.

"Almost UAH 3 billion for these needs has already been projected in the 2021 state budget. In addition, a special fund will be created to accumulate funds for vaccines and additional payments for doctors," he wrote.

According to Shmyhal, the government has already allocated UAH 1.3 billion to the Ministry of Health for vaccines this year. The decision has been approved by the parliamentary budget committee.

As reported, Ukraine signed technical documents on the provision of 8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine within the COVAX Facility. This will be enough to vaccinate 4 million people (one person needs two doses).
