Ukraine to conduct census in 2023

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to conduct an all-Ukrainian population census in 2023.

The relevant resolution on holding the census was approved at a government’s meeting on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The adoption of the resolution will provide the necessary legal basis for the all-Ukrainian census, the results of which will be a source of information for the formation of state policy on economic and social development of Ukraine, budget policy, as well as for short- and long-term demographic forecasts," Minister of the Cabinet Ministers Oleh Nemchinov wrote on Telegram.

According to him, the next All-Ukrainian census should provide objective information on the quantitative and qualitative composition of the population as a whole and at all levels of its administrative and territorial structure.

Nemchinov noted that the census is of great economic and socio-political importance and requires careful preparation. According to the previous resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers (as of April 9, 2008, No.581-r), the census was scheduled for 2020. "But at present the implementation of the planned preparatory measures, given the quarantine restrictions and the real possibilities of financial security in the relevant budget period, becomes impossible. Therefore, it was decided to postpone the census to 2023," the minister added.
