Govt won't stop public transportation in case of stricter lockdown

The Cabinet of Ministers does not plan to restrict the operation of public transport in the event of the introduction of stricter quarantine measures.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this during an Hour of Questions in the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, December 4, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Public transport will keep running. Airlines, railways, public transport are not planned to be closed even in case of a stricter lockdown," the PM said.

According to him, scientific research shows that public transport is not the main source of active spread of COVID-19. "A complete list of possible restrictions will be made public at a government meeting next Wednesday, December 9,” Shmyhal added.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister said that the Cabinet of Ministers may tighten COVID-19 restrictions in early January 2021 if the situation with the spread of coronavirus in Ukraine worsens.

As of December 4, a total of 787,891 COVID-19 cases were laboratory confirmed in Ukraine, including 15,131 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
