124,000 tourists visited Chornobyl last year

The Chornobyl Exclusion Zone has long been a tourist magnet, especially for foreigners who come here on purpose. In 2019 alone, 124,000 tourists visited Chornobyl.

“The Chornobyl Exclusion Zone has long been a tourist magnet, especially for foreigners who come here on purpose. This place is second to none in the world. For example, in 2019, most tourists came from the United Kingdom – 18,000 people. Ten thousand tourists arrived from Poland, another ten thousand – from Germany, and 6,500 people came from the United States,” the press service of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

However, only 31,720 visitors have come to the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic. As noted, Chornobyl welcomed 17,038 tourists in October 2019 compared to 7,202 tourists in October 2020.
