City mayors to be fined for refusing to adhere to weekend lockdown – Nemchinov

Mayors of the cities have no influence on the implementation of the decree, since it is beyond their competence, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleh Nemchinov said.

He said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, commenting on the refusal of mayors to strengthen quarantine measures at the weekend.

"If they issue administrative documents that the weekend lockdown does not apply to their municipal institutions, they will be subject to the same fines and administrative protocols as any hardware store owner," he said.

According to Nemchinov, mayors should go about their business.

As Ukrinform reported, on November 11, the Cabinet of Ministers introduced a weekend lockdown in Ukraine - from November 14 to 30.

As of November 17, Ukraine reported 557,657 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 11,968 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.
