Ukrainian schoolchildren may have short holidays during local elections - Stepanov

Ukrainian schoolchildren may have short holidays during local elections in the country so as to ensure the work of election commissions that are often located in the school premises, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

He told this to journalists on Tuesday, September 1, commenting on the holding of local elections amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I think we need a few more days so that we and the Central Election Commission could work out [recommendations for holding local elections] to the smallest detail. If we talk about schools [most polling stations are traditionally located in the premises of educational institutions], we understand that it will be necessary to organize additional short holidays so that there were meetings of commissions and vote count at this time," Stepanov said.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Central Election Commission are developing an algorithm for holding local elections amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Local elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 25, 2020.
