President instructs Government to take measures to avoid second wave of COVID-19

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed the Government to take measures to avoid the second wave of COVID-19.

"Ukraine knows how to summon up if necessary. It's time for the government to take measures to prevent a second wave of coronavirus infection, which can have dire consequences not only for the economy, but also for our human capital," President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said, the press service of the Head of State informs.

Given the rapid growth in the number of COVID-19 cases in Ukraine, the President instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to urgently assess the readiness of hospitals to help patients, to provide institutions with all the necessary equipment.

In addition, the Head of State instructed the Government to provide medical workers with personal protective equipment in full amount and to strengthen control over compliance with quarantine measures.

Also, the Cabinet of Ministers must revise the operation of the entry points on the administrative border with the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

As of August 8, Ukraine has reported 79,750 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,489 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours.

Today, the Government will convene an extraordinary meeting due to deteriorating epidemic situation.
