Ukrainian Canadians call for joint efforts to support flood-hit regions in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) have called for joint efforts in supporting those affected by heavy flooding in western Ukraine.

“We call on members of our community to generously support these relief efforts. The UCC and CUF also express our deepest sympathy to all those who have been affected by the devastating floods,” said Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

As Ukrinform reported, heavy rains on June 22-24 caused floods in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, and Ternopil regions. Three people were killed in floods and one more went missing. Hundreds of kilometers of roads, dozens of bridges were destroyed, and hundreds of people were resettled.

On July 3, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill introducing amendments to the law on Ukraine's state budget for 2020 to allocate additional UAH 2 billion to overcome the effects of floods in western Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ukrainian government allocated UAH 700 million to tackle the negative effects of the June floods in the western regions.
