Kyiv public beaches open for swimming – Klitschko

Kyiv authorities have officially allowed swimming at public beaches.

“I want to inform you that the city beaches are open for swimming,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at a briefing on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent report.

He noted that 12 beaches and 20 recreation areas without swimming received certificates for opening.

According to him, the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection conducted laboratory testing of water and drinking water in fountains at beaches.

Klitschko emphasized that the opening of beaches is another test for the consciousness of citizens. "Since the coronavirus has not gone anywhere, and at beaches, people also need to follow basic safety rules, (such as) social distance, sanitizers," he said.

As of June 19, Kyiv city’s confirmed cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 rose to 4,176. The number of city residents with laboratory-confirmed coronavirus disease has grown by 92 people over the past day. One lethal case has been confirmed. 

In total, Ukraine reported 34,984 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases. Some 921 new cases were confirmed over the past day.
