Ukraine’s coronavirus cases doubled in past week – Stepanov

Ukraine’s confirmed coronavirus cases have doubled in the past week, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has stated.

“Over the past day, 829 people have fallen, including 61 children and 66 healthcare workers. This is a new anti-record set in Ukraine... If we analyze the figures over the last week and compare them even with monthly data, the number of daily cases has doubled,” Stepanov said at a briefing on June 18, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to the health minister, this is due to the fact that Ukrainians are not taking quarantine seriously and consider weakening of restrictive measure as their lifting.

He added that over the previous day, a total of 21,204 tests were performed, including 12,106 PCR tests and 9,098 ELISA tests.

As of June 18, Ukraine reported 34,063 coronavirus cases, including 829 COVID-19 infections confirmed in the previous day. In total, 15,447 patients have recovered and 966 have died since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. A total of 530,442 PCR tests have been conducted.
