Minister Tkachenko asks PM Shmyhal to allocate 2 billion for culture

Culture and Information Policy Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko has sent a letter to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal regarding the return of funding to support culture, including the allocation of UAH 2 billion.

"We need to return the sequestered funds to support the artists and the institutions they represent. This is the first step. Today I have already submitted a letter to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to return funding to support culture. So far, this is UAH 2 billion. I will lobby for prompt consideration of the appeal," Tkachenko posted on Facebook.

According to him, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy will soon develop a concept of proper distribution of these funds. "The issue is on the agenda, we will address it immediately after the return of funding," the official added.

According to the minister, the creative industries have lost UAH 10-20 billion during the crisis, so now there is much concern about their survival.

As reported, Culture and Information Policy Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko stated from the parliamentary rostrum on June 4 that he considered the support and financing of culture and tourism to be a priority for the Ministry. According to him, the sector currently needs UAH 3-4 billion.
