PM Honcharuk: Relatives of UIA plane crash victims to be paid compensation within week

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine today will approve a decision on one-off payment to the families of victims of the Ukraine International Airlines crash in Tehran. The relatives will receive payments within a week.

"Today we will approve a decision to pay compensations to the families of the victims of the plane crash in Iran... We will make a decision to pay UAH 200,000 to each family and expect the compensations to be paid within a week," Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk said when opening the Cabinet’s meeting, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, the one-off payment from the state budget’s reserve fund will be provided before the families receive the insurance proceeds.

“We will closely follow that the insurance proceeds are paid out properly under the Montreal Convention. Each family of the deceased Ukrainian should be paid SDR 250,000 which is nearly $345,000,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that Ukraine would also insist on compensations from the Iranian government through all diplomatic channels and international bodies.
