Ukraine's population shrinks to almost 42 million

The population of Ukraine was almost 42 million on November 1, 2019, which is less than last year, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has reported.

"As of November 1, 2019, the population of Ukraine was estimated to be 41,940,700 people. On this date in 2018, it was 42,198,483 people," the report reads.

The death rate still significantly exceeds the birth rate, with 54 births per 100 deaths.

A total of 486,778 people died this year and 484,481 died last year.

In the structure of the population of Ukraine by gender, 53.7% of people are women and 46.3% are men.

Data on the calculation (estimation) of the population cover all regions of Ukraine, except the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
