Chernobyl series creator: Ukraine should be more active in making historical films

Ukraine should be more active in making and supporting its own historical films.

"The truth is that stories like the Chernobyl disaster should be told not by Americans like me. I think it would be very good to start thinking about your art, about your culture as a way of expression. To look at your past as purely and clearly as possible is normal and good. The 20th century is the most dramatic, sad and, at the same time, the most beautiful pages of Ukrainian history. We all need them,” Chernobyl series creator Craig Mezin said at the 16th Yalta European Strategy (YES) Annual Meeting in Kyiv on Friday, the press service of the YES reports.

He added that the world still knew almost nothing about such a large-scale tragedy as the Holodomor man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine in 1932-1933.

“People who can support film production in Ukraine, I encourage you to support your filmmakers. This will help people to tell their stories the way they really were,” the creator of the HBO limited series Chernobyl summed up.
