One in five Ukrainians not willing to work abroad - poll

One in five Ukrainians who worked abroad for a long time do not plan to return to work due to low salaries and high costs of living, a survey shows.

"Twenty percent of Ukrainians who worked abroad for a long time are not planning to return to work," the OLX online marketplace said in a press release obtained by Ukrinform.

According to statistics provided on the OLX website, almost half of Ukrainians who now do not want to return to work received a salary of less than $1,000 abroad. Another 18% got less than $1,200. Only 11% of those who no longer plan to work outside their homeland earned $2,000 a month.

In April 2018, Ukraine's Center for Economic Strategy (CES) released a study entitled "How Many Ukrainians Have Departed, and What Can Be Done About This?" which shows that Ukraine is among the top ten donors of international migrants in the world. Last year, the number of Ukrainian migrant workers reached four million people, with 2.6-2.7 million people staying outside the country at the same time.
