Zelensky wants visa waivers with number of countries to promote medical tourism

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky proposes to make a list of the countries for establishing a visa waiver program to develop medical tourism in Ukraine.

"We can make a list of countries whose citizens often come to Ukraine for medical treatment in order to abolish visas for them and address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [to settle this issue]. This especially concerns the countries whose nationals usually come here for treatment and rehabilitation and feel these obstacles when crossing the border," the Head of State stated at a meeting dedicated to the development of medical tourism in the town of Truskavets, Lviv region, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He noted that nowadays three times as many people go from Ukraine for treatment abroad than arrive in Ukraine for these purposes, so the issue of medical tourism development is urgent.

Chairman of the Lviv Regional State Administration Markiyan Malsky reported during the meeting that there are 7 balneological resorts and more than 200 mineral water sources of various types in Lviv region. In general, Lviv region has considerable potential for the development of plastic surgery, dentistry, health resort and rehabilitation treatment, ophthalmology, and reproductive health.

According to him, it is now necessary to promote Ukrainian medical tourism in the world and create more favorable conditions for foreigners who would like to come to Ukraine for treatment.
