Ukrainian population to significantly reduce by 2050

The population of Ukraine will shrink by more than 20 percent by 2050, according to the UN's World Population Prospects 2019.

“The largest population decline of 20 percent or more during this period [2019-2050] is expected in Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine and the Wallis and Futuna Islands,” the report says.

According to the report, the population of Ukraine is 43.99 million people. By 2050, this number will be reduced to 35.2 million, and by 2100 - to 24.4 million.

The report notes that Belarus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Russian Federation, Serbia and Ukraine experience a net inflow of migrants, helping to offset population losses caused by an excess of deaths over births

It was earlier reported that the next 30 years will see the global population add an extra 2 billion people to today's figure of 7.7 billion, and, by the end of the century, the planet will have to sustain around 11 billion.
