Germany allocates EUR 5 mln in humanitarian aid for eastern Ukraine

Germany is allocating about EUR 5 million through the Workers' Samaritan Federation (ASB) in Germany to help people affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The Federal Government allocated an additional EUR 4.93 million for the period from 2019 to 2021, thanks to which the total amount of ASB assistance in Ukraine exceeded EUR 11 million, the German Embassy in Ukraine reported on Friday.

“The new phase of the project implemented since May 2019 targets territorial communities located in Luhansk and Donetsk regions that are controlled by the Government of Ukraine (near the contact line). It serves to strengthen the guaranteed supply of food and hygiene items to people most affected by the conflict, in particular, to many older people,” the embassy says, Interfax reports.

Other components of the project provide for the provision of construction, heat insulation, and fuel materials to people living in the most unsuitable housing in the winter period.

In addition, children, adolescents, the elderly and people with disabilities receive psychosocial support.
