UNICEF identifies key areas of work in Ukraine

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine is engaged in water supply in eastern Ukraine, providing support for pregnant women and newborns, and vaccination issue.

Ukrinform learnt this from UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Ms. Lotta Sylwander.

"We continue to implement a large humanitarian project on providing water supply and sanitation in eastern Ukraine. Thanks to this project, we want about 3.5 million people living in the conflict-affected area to have proper sanitation conditions and water. The same applies to schools along the contact line. Many educational institutions were damaged in attacks. Children also need psychological and social support," she said.

According to Sylwande, UNICEF also focuses on providing care for pregnant women, newborns, HIV-related services and vaccination throughout Ukraine.

In addition, UNICEF in Ukraine works on changes to local legislation to protect the rights of children with disabilities.
