UNICEF to assist Ukraine in carrying out reform of institutional care for children

UNICEF in Ukraine will support the process of carrying out the reform of institutional care and education system for children.

Newly appointed UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Lotta Sylwander stated this at a meeting with Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children's Rights Mykola Kuleba, the president’s press service reported this on Friday evening.

“In addition to the UNICEF humanitarian mission in the east of Ukraine, assistance to internally displaced persons and other important projects that the organization implements in our country, Mrs. Sylwander has promised to support the process of implementation of the DI Reform,” reads the report.

Kuleba, in turn, noted that the beginning of the second stage of the reform it was extremely important to carry out independent monitoring with the involvement of international experts to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of each child. Such monitoring will make it possible to implement the reform taking into account the best international experience and timely detect the mistakes.

"I am convinced that with the support of such a powerful international organization as UNICEF we will be able to achieve the desired results in the field of child protection and create truly safe welfare for the children of Ukraine," Mykola Kuleba said.
